Short Term Disability Insurance – EMPLOYER PAID AND VOLUNTARY
Short-term disability coverage will provide 60% of an employee's weekly income if an off-the-job sickness or injury disables them. It is important to note that 62% of all disabilities occur out of the workplace.
The coverage may begin as early as the 1st day of disability due to accident, the 8th day after disability due to an illness, and usually provides coverage for 13, 26 or 52 weeks. Should an employees pay drop by 20% or more, a ‘Partial Disability” benefit is also available that would pay a pro-rata benefit.
Now that pregnancy is considered a disability under the American's for Disabilities Act, more and more employers are adding short-term disability insurance to their employee benefit platform.
